Curbcut
WCAG checks that explain the fix, on one page or across a whole site.
Check the page you are on against WCAG 2.2 (contrast, alt text, labels, headings, landmarks) with a clear fix for every issue.
What it does
Curbcut is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Click its toolbar button (or press Alt+Shift+K), then choose Check this page. The check runs inside your browser and tests the page against the WCAG 2.2 rules for the level you choose (A, AA or AAA).
- Results: issues counted by impact (critical, serious, moderate, minor), grouped by success criterion or by rule.
- Explanations: for each issue, what is wrong, who is affected, the steps to fix it with a short code example, and a link to the W3C Understanding document.
- Show on page: scrolls to the element and draws an outline around it. The page's own markup is not changed.
- Contrast: the colours as rendered, the measured ratio, the ratio WCAG requires, and the nearest text colour that passes.
- Structure: the heading outline (with skipped levels marked) and the landmark regions of the page.
- Copy as Markdown: paste an issue into a ticket.
All of this is free, with no account and no limit on the number of checks.
Pro
Pro costs $49 per year and adds a site scan (up to 500 pages of one site), exports (CSV, JSON, printable report) and saved runs that mark each issue as new, unchanged or fixed. One license also unlocks Curbcut for VS Code when it comes out. See pricing.
Limits
- Automated checks find only part of all WCAG failures. Test with a keyboard and a screen reader as well.
- Curbcut does not make a site compliant and does not change your pages.
- Frames from other origins are not tested; the report lists them.
- A site scan reads pages in your own browser, so it sees what you can see, one page at a time.
Privacy
The checks run on your device. Curbcut sends no page content, browsing history or usage data anywhere and has no analytics. The only thing it ever sends is your license key, to Polar, when you activate Pro. Read the privacy policy.
Coming later
A VS Code extension, a WordPress plugin and a web app with scheduled scans are planned. They are not available yet.
